Blackened Shake Sideboard
Blackened Shake Sideboard by Sebastian Cox and Benchmark Furniture. A contemporary sideboard cabinet constructed with blackened shakes in chestnut and an ash timber frame, designed exclusively for The New Craftsmen. The shakes are then assembled on the door frames to create a fantastic texture.
Shakes are a type of shingle commonly used in Japan as architectural cladding. Made from coppiced chestnut, each has been cleft (the ancient art of splitting wood along its grain) skilfully split as thinly as possible.
