|Date:||20 to 23 September 2015|
|Where:||Syon Park, West London, TW8 8JF|
|When:||10am to 6pm each day|
A sample from the Bowls of Britain installation by The New Craftsmen at Decorex International 2015. 18 makers have been briefed to reinterpret a bowl of specific shape and dimensions within the scope of their individual craft practice.
This year The New Craftsmen will have two platforms during The London Design Festival 2015; in our Mayfair showroom & at Decorex International 2015, where we have been invited to curate the VIP lounge in collaboration with House & Garden Magazine.
Pursuing the concept of an ‘Anthology of British Craft’, we will be transforming the VIP Lounge into a creative platform for the skills, materials and processes that make up craft across the British Isles – offering immersive experiences that explore different aspects of craftsmanship in thought provoking ways, from texture and pattern to form and finish.
Highlights include a new day bed design from William Waterhouse with hand-block printed fabrics from Louisa Loakes, ‘Bowls of Britain’ – a curated collection of 18 bowls presenting an anthology of craft and process, ‘Baskets of the British Isles’ co-curated by master basket maker Hilary Burns, and lighting from hand-weaver Catarina Riccabona and potter Akiko Hirai, which will mark the soft launch of our new Lighting Design Service in collaboration with design consultant Claire Norcross. This new service, which will be realised fully in January 2016, will allow interior designers to appropriate the skills of our makers to realise bespoke lighting designs for their spaces.
