London Craft Week: Craft on an International Stage

Globalisation has brought a renewed desire for objects with a story of provenance, process and place.

This panel discussion will be chaired by design critic and journalist Alice Rawsthorn and feature Guy Salter (Chairman of London Craft Week), Mark Henderson (Chairman and Co-Founder of The New Craftsmen), Ambra Medda (Co-Founder and Creative Director of L’ArcoBaleno), Annie Warbuton (Creative Director at The Crafts Council) and Gareth Neal (Designer and Maker).

The panel will discuss initiatives ranging from London Craft Week to a number of national and international high profile craft prizes, exploring their implications for craft makers today.

Alice Rawsthorn writes about design in the International New York Times and frieze. She speaks on design at global events including TED and the World Economic Forum’s annual meetings at Davos, Switzerland. Based in London, Alice is chair of trustees of the Chisenhale Gallery and the contemporary dance group Michael Clark Company, and a trustee of the Whitechapel Gallery. Her latest book Hello World: Where Design Meets Life explores design’s impact on our lives: past, present and future. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to design and the arts.
