£1,920
The Cinch Chair in London Tan by Otis Ingrams is part of a collection that takes inspiration from the utilitarianism, aesthetic and values of the shaker furniture tradition. As well as its linear form, the chair presents a commitment to beautiful and honest materials - from its simple English oak frame to its russet tanned leather sourced from the last remaining oak bark tannery in Devon, Britain.

Values of honesty, simplicity and utility are imbued in this collection of furniture by Otis Ingrams. Taking his cue from the shaker tradition of design, the Cinch Chair Collection is a study in proportionality, form, and the purity of materials. Honest in appearance and construction, the hand cut and burnished leather is woven and tacked around a hand turned English oak frame, finished with an elegant leather backrest stitched with waxed linen thread and held with simple brass fixings.

Process

The timber frame is turned by hand, with tenons pinned between the back legs to add strength and provide a subtle detail. Sourced from the last oak bark tannery in Britain, the woven leather is cut and burnished by hand before being tacked to the frame. Otis then uses waxed linen thread to secure the backrest before finishing with simple brass fixings.
