Classical Porcelain Pinch Pot (Small)
John Julian
£17
Classical Porcelain Pinch Pot by John Julian, an elegantly designed handled mug in off-white porcelain with a glazed exterior.
Julian Sainsbury of John Julian has developed his Classical range of porcelain tableware by taking inspiration from early English ceramics and pewterware. Channelling his prior training as a classical sculptor, Julian has imbued each piece with a sense of form and proportion, while leaving the exterior surface unglazed. The pared-down approach to form and function has resulted in this elegant pinch pot, suitable not only for herbs and condiments but also as a butter dish or dipping bowl.

John Julian creates porcelain kitchenware, serveware and tableware by hand in Wiltshire. Julian established his studio in 1999, first exhibiting at Egg in Kensington, London, where chef Nigel Slater bought one of Sainsbury’s iconic pestle and mortars. Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson soon followed. In 2013, frustrated with the restrictions of other manufacturers, John Julian set up his own workshop, enabling him to inject more character into each piece through the hand-crafted process.
