Ricasso Handle in Yellow Plain Weave (Small)

The Ricasso Handle Collection by Aimee Betts was originally inspired by European sword handles at the Wallace Collection. The collection has been reimagined with a new sleek design, three woven and stitched variations and a broad range of leather colours. Ricasso Handle in Yellow Plain Weave (Small) is part of this new collection, inspired by the tradition of off-loom weaving. Aimee's creative practice challenges textile thinking by applying her ideas onto unexpected three-dimensional forms. These form part of a wider collection of interior products and lighting that Aimee has developed for The New Craftsmen, which articulate both the decorative and functional possibilities of stitching, braiding, knotting and weaving techniques.

PROCESS

Aimee applies stitched leather cord and hemp to an aluminium rod in order to create the handles. She uses extra strong nylon thread to add zig zag stitching to the surface. The handle bracket was developed using hand-modelled designs made from wax, in order to achieve the correct size and aesthetic before being converted to a digital 3D model, then CNC machined, to create a delicate yet secure connection suited to all cabinetry.
