Willow Chair

The Willow Chair is a unique collaboration, stemming from Gareth Neal's popular Brodgar Collection. Inspired by the tactile qualities of willow, furniture maker Gareth Neal has partnered with master basket maker Annemarie O'Sullivan of Studio AMOS on this chair, which was designed for Decorex in 2016. The chair, through its intricately weaved back, references traditional basket making techniques.

PROCESS

Studio AMOS are invested in organic, sustainable practice. Engaging with every step from harvesting to weaving, their work draws on the curves of the landscape and demonstrates a connection with nature that results in beautiful baskets, steeped in history. Master weaver Annemarie has travelled and learnt from makers of different traditions, collaborating along the way, always mindful to acknowledge the extraordinary legacy of the makers who came before.
The Willow Chair is designed by Gareth Neal, manufactured by The New Craftsmen with specialist workshop Lydiates and then sent to Annemarie to have a back woven in stripped willow.
