Grogged Jug

Arjan Van Dal
Grogged Jug by Arjan van Dal is a functional jug crafted from textured, grogged porcelain, and tinted with a subtle hue using a careful mix of oxides.

Perfectly crafted with a clean and understated aesthetic, Arjan uses his own unique recipe of porcelain, grog (which is particles of fired clay) and oxides to achieve the desired texture and tone. Once fired, each piece is sanded and polished to create a smooth and tactile surface. Please note that due to the technique of wedging pigment into grogged clay and the burnishing effect that appears during firing, the tone and consistency of the colour may vary in each jug.

Arjan uses porcelain precisely for its pliability and plasticity to create smooth forms. The extreme whiteness of the material means it lends itself to pigmentation more effectively. During the making process each piece is sanded and polished to reveal the grogged porcelain texture.
