Aimee Betts is a mixed-media embroidery designer and creator of adornments, who is bringing the traditions of embroidery to the forefront of contemporary design.
Discontent with ready-made materials, Aimee often prefers to construct her own embellishments and embroidery cords whenever possible by using fast industrial processes. She combines digital embroidery, laser cutting technology and circular knitting machines with the slow process of hand-embroidery. Her versatile braiding can be used for many different applications – from handles and spindles to coloured light cables and frames.
Aimee graduated from the RCA in 2010 with an MA in Mixed Media Textiles. She is a Specialist Stitch Technician at Chelsea College of Art & Design and a Visiting Tutor at Arts University Bournemouth. Aimee is also an alumni member of the Crafts Council UK Hothouse 2011 Programme for Emerging Designer Makers.
