Hint Basket

Annemarie O'Sullivan
Hint Basket by Annemarie O'Sullivan, a functional piece inspired by the craft heritage of the Orkney Islands.

Hint Basket is part of a collection designed by Annemarie O'Sullivan as a response to her residency on Orkney and produced as a prototype by master basket maker Felicity Truscott. This basket forms a contemporary new collection made using an endangered coiled straw technique, which will eventually be employed exclusively for The New Craftsmen by a new wave of Orkney makers.

This basket was created by sewing a core of straw using fine chair cane. The core is 'sized' throughout the making using a piece of pipe with straw continuously added into the pipe to keep the core the same size.
