Jo Waterhouse's 'Hoodening' collage is reminiscent of a Kentish folk custom, in which a wooden hobby horse is mounted on a pole and carried by a hidden figure, disguised under a sackcloth.
Part of 'English Folk' – a series of 12 paper collages exploring the rich tapestry of British folk costumes. Each piece captures the interplay between the transcendental nature of the costumes (the animal imagery, ritual and tradition) with human fallibility (the rain, undone shoe laces, bald spots).
