Incalmo Water Glass (Teal)

Jochen Holz
£55
Incalmo Water Glass by Jochen Holz, handmade using the traditional Venetian technique where two glass elements are blown together in a single object. A unique, coloured piece of glassware.

The pieces are free-blown from borosilicate, a heat resistant and durable glass, the coloured bases capture sunlight brilliantly and make a vibrant vessel to fill with your favourite drink. Each glass is heat and dishwasher proof. Concentrating on the unusual technique of lamp working, Jochen is one of very few glass artists practising this form of glass blowing in Britain. His design approach is guided by the making process and the flow of hot glass. Navigating the possibilities and restrictions of the technique and material, his objects range from free formed textured borosilicate tumblers and vases to coloured incalmo jugs and wine glasses.

Process

These pieces are made using a complex Venetian technique called Incalmo. Made from 2 separate pieces, the glass segments are simultaneously blown to the same size and thickness before joining. Requiring expert control, each segment is required to fit perfectly.
