Edmond Byrne is a glass artist of growing repute whose exploration of colour, texture and form aims to stimulate a deep emotional response in the viewer. Edmond’s technique includes blowing glass into moulds made from fabrics, clay and sand, as well as adding patina and cracks to the surface to recreate the weathering of ancient Roman glass.
“What lies behind the glass surfaces, as one colour effects another, and as one marked surface is half-hidden or barely glimpsed? These are layers of time, a sense of the strata of things. The pieces express the quality of transparency, absorbed as well as transmitted light.”
– Professor Simon Olding, Director, Crafts Study Centre.
