Medium Straw Fireside Basket

Billy Fotheringhame
Medium Straw Fireside Basket was made by Orcadian straw enthusiast Billy Fotheringhame, a maker who has lived all his life on Orkney, and for whom straw is a way of life and a pastime for the long winter evenings. He makes useful baskets for the every day, using traditional techniques to manipulate locally-grown Barley Oats into beautiful forms. This particular piece is a functional curved basket ideal for storing dry goods or wood.
