A unique and decorative piece, hand-crafted using a press mould and white earthenware clay. This illustrative plate is inspired by the Orkney folklore tale of a mermaid searching for a mortal man to marry.
Material: White earthenware clay.

Care Instructions: Wipe with damp cloth or duster.
The plate is made from white earthenware clay, which is the clay is rolled out flat and then laid onto a slump mould to take its form, before it is hand-painted using coloured underglazes. A clear transparent glaze is used to finish.
Alex Sickling is an illustrator and ceramicist based in Newcastle. She explores the process of image making through ceramic objects, creating both functional and decorative pieces, including plates and figurines. Known for her love of Staffordshire pottery, and her fascination with Victorian society, Alex has collaborated with clients such as Anthropologie, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and the Hepworth Gallery, Wakefield. She graduated from Leeds College of Art in 2012.
