Nesting Bowl & Cups

Iva Polachova
Nesting Cups & Bowl is a unique stoneware serving set, created by contemporary ceramicist Iva Polachova. The cups are hand built and molded to fit snugly in a specially crafted ‘nest’, which also functions as a bowl. Each time Iva makes an assembly such as this, she creates a new shape of container, rendering this piece one-of-a-kind and exclusive to The New Craftsmen.

Made from stoneware clay, the cups are press-molded using a shell and the bowl is hand built using methods of carving and coiling clay. After firing, Iva uses simple ceramic tools – scraper and rasp blades – to mark the objects, which are left visible under the glaze as a gentle reminder of the handmade. Each cup is lightly covered in a glossy white glaze, and the bowl in matt white.
