- Product Details
These stoneware teacups are made from a tactile, coarse clay built up in multiple layers & finished in a flower petal design. They have been decorated with a coloured slip on the exterior and finished with a transparent glaze on the interior, creating a beautifully textured and stained surface.
About Akiko Hirai
Akiko Hirai draws upon traditional Japanese methods when making her ceramics. Her pieces are deeply textured and her forms are those of work ware – simple and satisfying. She uses rough dark clay, creating a veil between the rough forms underneath and the smooth calm of the glazed exterior. Akiko studied at The University of Westminster and subsequently Central St Martins, she currently works as Head of Ceramics in Kensington and Chelsea College.
