A hearty, well-proportioned earthenware mug by ceramicist Hannah McAndrew, hand thrown on a potter’s wheel, each piece has been lovingly decorated with slip - liquid clays of contrasting colours, with an owl design on each side. A popular form of pottery in Britain from the 17th century to the 19th century, this slipware piece is a contemporary take on a traditional form of folk pottery.
About Hannah McAndrew
Hannah McAndrew is a slipware potter working in South West Scotland. Hannah set up her first workshop in 2003. Her work draws on the rich heritage of Britain’s tradition of slipware pottery, using it as a basis for her own contemporary work. Thrown in red earthenware, Hannah’s work is decorated using coloured slips & rich honey glazes.
