Flowered Staffordshire Dogs (large)
Alex Sickling’s modern take on the Staffordshire dog pays homage to the Victorian-era English clay figures, often set atop the fireplace in the 19th Century home. Using black underglaze paints, every dog is hand-finished, giving it a unique coat. Sold as pairs, available in small and large sizes.Read More

Alex's contemporary pieces are crafted from a plaster mould, allowing her to make multiple copies of the same form. Each figure is then slip cast using white earthenware, to guarantee a crisp, pristine surface when fired. Alex has long been drawn to the surface texture and colour of the original ornaments, having studied many variations in antique shops and flea markets.
Alex Sickling is an illustrator and ceramicist based in Newcastle. Her one-off ornaments have a naïve quality, reminiscent of simpler times and small town ideals. Each character is colourful and adventurous, with a personality all their own.
