  • Product Details

A large swill basket woven by Lorna Singleton decorated in a style unique to the Furness Fells area of South Cumbria. Swill products support responsible woodland management and the diversity of wildlife of the local area, preserving it for future generations.

The swill used by Lorna comes from Oak coppiced in the Rusland Valley, Cumbria, which once collected is boiled overnight, riven into strips, dressed & soaked before weaving onto a Hazel wood rim. Each basket retains the character of the wood and the nature of the material means each basket is fully repairable to prolong its life.

    About the Lora Singleton

Lorna Singleton is a ‘swiller’ – specialising in woven wooden products made using locally coppiced oak produced in South Cumbria. Using simple hand tools and techniques used by generations of swillers before her, Lorna creates baskets based on the traditional patterns from the Furness area of South Cumbria. She incorporates contemporary features that show off the unique strength and flexibility of swill.
