- Product Details
The 'Plank' is a modern interpretation of the old English settle, a bench seat originally found in pubs and churches, and designed to protect against cold drafts.
The settle is available in 3 sizes (1.2m, 1.8m and 2.4m) and three raw or sealed wood finishes (Oak, Ash or Douglas fir). Each settle can also be hand-painted in a gloss or matt finish, with a choice of 7 colours.
Further bespoke options and accessories are available including a hand-stitched leather storage bag, a hand-stitched leather seat cushion with a British wool felt base and feather filler, both by leather worker Otis Ingrams, or a canvas seat cushion in green.
About Common Parts
The Common Parts collection by Sue Skeen in partnership with The New Craftsmen is a furniture collection integrating the traditional skills of makers from the British Isles into timeless design classics.
The collection comprises 5 designs (PLANK, STUMPY, PEGGY, TRUNK, STICK), all produced in the British Isles; the benches and tables by furniture makers Inglis Hall in Sussex, and the chair by Sitting Firm Chair makers in Coventry. Drawing on our specialist makers, collaborators include paint and lacquer specialist Pedro da Costa Felgueiras, leather worker Otis Ingrams, rush weaver Felicity Irons, and mosaicist Giulia Manzoni in collaboration with JW Restoration.
Sue Skeen is an artist, stylist and art director. She worked for Min Hogg at World of Interiors before turning to freelance collaborations with interiors and industry clients; her production company, Skeen & Co, produced the Habitat catalogue at the turn of the century, and she worked with Ilse Crawford as Deputy Editor at Elle Decoration. She is obsessive about homes and nests, and currently maintains a studio at her home in Suffolk.
