The Scout Leader is larger than other ornaments in the collection, referencing a father-figure, the older more experienced explorer that was Baden Powell. Each ornament is hand-built, giving every little scout a unique personality. Working from sketches and images of vintage photos, Alex creates each work to fit into the collection, adding depth and character to the story. This series of scout ornaments was inspired by nature, the outdoors, youthful exploration, and that very human of desires: to discover hidden places
Alex Sickling is an illustrator and ceramicist based in Newcastle. Her one-off ornaments have a naïve quality, reminiscent of simpler times and small town ideals. Each character is colourful and adventurous, with a personality all their own.
