  • Product Details

'Sparkly Blue Eyes' has a strong colour palette of brown/black, metallic blue, lime green and pink. It conveys an intense character, with a piercing gaze. The reverse is light-hearted, defined by a line of silver blue emerging from the eyes. The wooden frame allows the piece to be viewed both front and back, displaying the unique composition of each face.

Inspired by Bruno Munari’s work in ‘Design as Art’, Jane based her compositions on Munari's sketches of faces, pushing her process to reveal new shapes. Using texture and colour in a similar way to painting, Jane has achieved tactile depth and simple contrasts.

Each piece is hand-woven on a 24-shaft loom using the Lampas technique, which dates to 1000 AD. This method produces a luxury finish, with an emphasis on the background weft (a ground weave), alongside supplementary wefts (the pattern wefts), laid on top to form the design.

    About Jane Landau

A love of colour and texture inspire Jane to create distinctive contemporary objects. She believes that fabric is akin to jewellery in the way it frames and enhances form, reflecting light and capturing movement. Her research interests include ancient weaving techniques such as Lampas and Taqueté, alongside the silk weaving traditions of Lyon.
