- Product Details
An Ale-brown “volcano Vase” by Tim Hurn, dripping with glaze, it’s surface covered with the process of firing, showcasing the path of the flame through the vessel. Hand-thrown in his studio in Dorset, each vessel is fired in Tim’s Anagama kiln - a type of Japanese kiln in an intensive, several days long firing process. Depending on the vessel’s placement and the density of the kiln, each piece will be patterned with unique colourations, textures and marks, ensuring each is a one off. With a timeless design and wholesome appeal, Tim’s unique ceramics make for beautiful functional or decorative vessels.
About Tim Hurn
Tim Hurn is a ceramicist based in Dorset specialising in wood-fired pottery. Tim studied at Camberwell School of Art, before spending time honing his craft at Tokoname, Japan, one of the country’s seven ancient kiln sites.
Tim's creates his pieces from a 'Anagama' (Cave) kiln he has built himself and used for the past 20 years. Over a period of two days and nights, Tim burns up to four tons of wood in the kiln’s firebox. A top temperature of 1300°C is maintained for about eighteen hours to create the final result – strong, durable pottery imprinted with the path of the flame.
