Maria Sigma explores her Greek heritage through her woven work. Her latest work, the Melissanthi cushion collection, is a name derived from the Greek words μελισσα (melissa) meaning "honeybee" and ανθος (anthos) meaning “flower”.
Maria’s minimalist and asymmetrical weaves she explains “deliberately discard the pursuit of perfect symmetry and eschew 'self-punishing' techniques that leave no room for creative exploration.” Her work embodies a feeling of home; a sense of place and identity and reflect daily rituals, becoming part of personal collections and timeless heirlooms.
