Handwoven Throw (Red, Orange, White & Turquoise) by weaver Catarina Riccabona, crafted from UK-sourced alpaca and incorporating plant-dyed coloured wools and yarns from her grandmother's collection.

This throw was handwoven by Catarina in her London studio as part of a collection of pieces crafted in response to a quote by the iconic Bauhaus weaver Anni Albers in her book "On Weaving", which emphasizes the importance of weave structures in cloth. Featuring vibrant stripes and panels set against a natural white-cream alpaca cloth.

Hand-weaving is quite a structured activity. There are different processes required before you start to weave. This set up gives me structure, a slow and considered approach. At the weaving stage I tend to work quite spontaneously and am often inspired by the materials I work with. I love the tactile quality.

The Maker Catarina Riccabona Textile Artist - South East England

Catarina Riccabona is a loom weaver, working with natural materials such as linen, hemp and alpaca producing intricately woven throws, cushions and textile art. Since graduating from Textiles at Central Saint Martins, Catarina has gone on to develop her interest in sustainability, heavily influencing her creative approach. Drawing inspiration from tribal textiles, vintage grain bags and linen towels, each of Catarina Riccabona’s pieces are hand woven on a traditional loom from her studio in South East London.
