The Ricasso Barrel Table Lamp is a cylindrical form with a hand braided surface, made by mixed-media textile designer, Aimee Betts. Shade not included.
Aimee has used intricate braiding to compose a tightly woven structure using cow suede, kangaroo and waxed cotton cords, creating a rich texture that becomes animated under the light. Contrasting with the timber below, this brocade work will draw the eye and create a focal point in any interior.

Process
For this lamp, the central braided design consists of multiple leather strands, which are hand-woven around a tubular base, a process described as ‘off-loom’ weaving. The woven structure naturally takes on a gentle twist as it pirouettes around the core.




Aimee Betts is a embroidery and textile designer specialising in traditional forms of stitching, knotting and fabric manipulation, which she translates into the contemporary design. Aimee’s versatile abilities have been applied widely – from textiles, to lighting and architectural installations. Graduating in Mixed Media Textiles from the RCA, Aimee works as a Specialist Stitch Technician at Chelsea College of Art & Design. She is also an alumnus of the Crafts Council UK Hothouse programme.
