Round Winged Flat Bird Sculpture by Christopher Marvell. The piece pays homage to the thriving art community in St Ives, Cornwall. Christopher first felt inspired to craft this piece as he was walking over the cliffs and moors of West Penwith, choosing to craft a bird that would convey a sense of belonging in that landscape.
Material: Patinated bronze
Dimensions: Height: 25cm, Width: 36cm
Care Instructions: Lightly brush with a warm, damp cloth
Christopher creates many sketches and small plaster maquettes before he casts the final piece in bronze. Aesthetic stipulations and markings are used to create movement and texture.
Christopher Marvell is a Cambridge-based sculptor who typically casts figurines of animals, birds or people in bronze. His figurative work is solid, substantial and has a playful intent. It brings to mind the work of Marin, Giacometti and Miro. Christopher Marvell spends a large amount of time working from his home in St Ives, and his work is influenced by the local Cornish landscape and mythology. His bronze sculptures can be found on display in public and private locations throughout the UK, USA, France, Germany and Spain.
