PARTNER: Connolly England
PROJECT: The Connolly Store, Mayfair, London
DATE: September 2017
For this project, Connolly England called upon us, having moved into their new home in Mayfair, a beautiful Georgian townhouse house on Clifford Street. This beautiful property was carefully restored by Connolly’s owner Isabel Ettedgui and Parisian interior design studio, Gilles et Boissier.
The move marked a relaunch for the brand, accentuating and elevating the showroom experience. Based on blending their luxurious fashion and leather goods with artworks and crafted pieces, it presents a level of sensitivity and curation far beyond the expected. Ettedgui wanted a retail space that was a living embodiment of the brand and the lifestyle it represents, whilst also being sensitive to the Georgian heritage of the building.
To meet this exceptional standard, we commissioned historic paint and pigment specialist Pedro Costa da Felgueiras, who has worked on the restoration of Strawberry Hill and the famous dragons guarding the pagodas at Kew Gardens. Pedro’s world is a vibrant one, built around lacquer and colourful pigments, and so he was tasked with crafting a bespoke paint finish for the Connolly showroom.
The Connolly Yellow is a triumph of colour and light. Inspired by one of London’s most loved interiors – The Yellow Room in Sir John Soane’s Museum – this space is a welcome, uplifting haven, especially on a grey winter’s day.
