Made of Mayfair
Project Details
PARTNER: Makers of The New Craftsmen & Fox & Squirrel
PROJECT: Made of Mayfair
DATE: May 2015
In order to shine a light on the rich artisanal history of Mayfair, we encouraged seven makers to develop work arising from a socio-cultural investigation of the area.
We commissioned Fox&Squirrel – makers of walks for the culturally curious – to document Mayfair as a resource for our makers to create pieces for London Craft Week 2015. Ultimately these craftspeople used this investigation as a vehicle to tell a story of place and craft.
With skills ranging from embroidery to letterpress printing, the makers created unique designs and one-off pieces that successfully represented the place where craft has such significant heritage, and still has a lasting presence today.

Each piece responded to and celebrates a unique aspect of Mayfair’s history, from a four poster bed, to fine hand weaving. Together, the pieces culminated into a complete installation in our North Row space that told the untold stories of Mayfair.
