Telling The Bees Vessel II
Telling The Bees Vessel II by ceramicist Charlotte McLeish is a hand-pinched terracotta piece depicting a fabled character from London folklore. This Illustration was inspired by the tradition of “telling the bees the news” particularly the news of any births, deaths or marriages within the family. Failing to do so could result in the bees deserting the hive or ceasing to produce honey. This piece belongs to a collection of decorative works portraying scenes from stories and legends of old London. Charlotte has contemporised classical shapes and motifs by using modern ceramic techniques and her own playful storytelling.
