The Fourth Month Woven Tapestry by textile artist Louise Martin. Louise find natural expression in the structure and techniques of weaving, which she freely adapts and reinvents. Using yarns sourced from the likes of Lithuania, Sweden and Scotland, Louise has deliberately selected hues evoking the Orkney landscape in Scotland, which first inspired the piece.
Dimensions: Height: 53cm, Length: 52cm, Width: 3cm
Care Instructions: Dust as necessary.
This tapestry piece is woven eccentrically in places to imbue the tapestry with life, energy and movement. Once the tapestry is cut from the loom, the warps are pulled and manipulated into shape.
Textile artist Louise Martin completed her art foundation on the Isle of Man, before moving to Middlesex University to study Constructed Textiles. During this time she was introduced to the art of tapestry, and was immediately drawn to the freedom of expression and technique it offered. Louise then completed a Masters in Applied Art at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, before undertaking residencies in India, Egypt and Dumfries, and worked as a senior weaver on the Unicorn project, based at Stirling Castle.
