Process

The Vault Chair in Ebony Oak is constructed and supported by crossing components called a ‘vault’. Each part is cut from a slab of solid Yorkshire oak and is shaped to create soft, robust forms. The leather is cold-formed and wrapped around the components to create a snug and tight tailored fit. The oak is then treated to create a darkened surface, similar to ebonising. Lastly, an oil finish is applied by Edward before the chair is assembled.
The Maker Edward Collinson Furniture Maker - London

Edward Collinson started his career in painting and sculpture, before opening his North London furniture studio in 2015. Having developed a fascination with making things at an early age – building his first shed from scratch at the age of 7 – Edward is passionate about creating quality, refined pieces for the home, designed to be modern heirlooms. The raw materiality and timelessness of his wooden pieces in particular, are inspired by his childhood spent in the idyllic Yorkshire countryside.
