Willow Paper Basket

Willow Paper Basket by Annemarie O'Sullivan. Hand-crafted from willow that Annemarie grows herself, these modern paper baskets are a response to the materials she hand gathers from the land. Annemarie's work draws on the sturdiness of agricultural baskets, the curves of the landscape and a deep respect for ancient crafts. The process of handcrafting this basket begins with a steam bent, square willow frame. Much of the initial setup requires careful knifework to make rounded corners on the frame and to cut the scalloms, or grooves in the stakes which tie around the frame. The sides are woven using Annemarie’s favourite and signature weave, that she likes to call the ‘double double French rand’. The basket is beautifully edged with a strong rod border.
