Winged Bull Sculpture by Christopher Marvell. The piece is a reflection of the now destroyed Nineveh bull near Mosul, as well as the bulls created by sculptor Robert Clatworthy. An inspiring reimagining of this stoic creature imbued with mythology, this piece has been crafted in a matt grey bronze typical of Christopher’s work.
Material: Patinated bronze
Dimensions: Height: 48cm, Width: 62cm
Care Instructions: Lightly brush with a warm, damp cloth
Christopher creates many sketches and small plaster maquettes before he casts the final piece in bronze. Aesthetic stipulations and markings are used to create movement and texture.
Christopher Marvell is a Cambridge-based sculptor who typically casts figurines of animals, birds or people in bronze. His figurative work is solid, substantial and has a playful intent. It brings to mind the work of Marin, Giacometti and Miro. Christopher Marvell spends a large amount of time working from his home in St Ives, and his work is influenced by the local Cornish landscape and mythology. His bronze sculptures can be found on display in public and private locations throughout the UK, USA, France, Germany and Spain.
