Maker's story
Darren is a UK-based wood artist, curator and public speaker. He taught himself wood turning as an undergraduate at Camberwell College of The Arts and was awarded the Cockpit Arts / The Worshipful Company of Turners award in 2017 and in 2019 was selected for the Craft Council Hothouse program.
THE PROCESS
Pyrography is a mark burning technique in which Darren uses a special tool to very subtly expose the transition of tone in the grain of wood. Maintaining the natural elements of the wood is key and this is visibly expressed through the imperfections of the wood, detail and textures.
