In our fifth and final week of our Objects exploration, The New Craftsmen invites you to discover, in fine detail, the work of historic paint specialist Pedro da Costa Felgueiras.

Pedro’s cork vessels form the more intuitive and experimental part of his practice. While the colours chosen are made with – and modelled on – historical pigments, the final shape of each piece is determined by the artist’s materials. There are faults and deformations found in Portugese cork oak bark, Pedro explains, that he might decide to enhance or eliminate.

Each of the two pieces explored in our short film are rimmed with precious metals, an addition which handsomely magnifies their ornamental beauty and makes each object highly collectable.
