A former family home, this Georgian building was lovingly restored to its classical origins to become the luxury hotel destination now known as Heckfield Place. Creatively envisaged and delivered by the interior design studio, BWT, it has become a symbol and benchmark within the travel industry for a reappraisal of the role of a hotel within a community and a redefinition of what a luxury hotel experience looks and feels like.

\n

Standing on a 400 acre secluded landscape tucked away in Hampshire, BWT saw an opportunity to create a hotel experience, interiors and ambiance that went far beyond the selection of paint colours and fabrics, but connected deeply to its surroundings - heritage, culture, materials and, most importantly, its craft ecosystem - across food and wine, lifestyle, toiletries, and the physical make-up and aesthetic of the rooms.

\n

BWT worked closely with the team at The New Craftsmen to realise this vision and bring the sense of the handmade to the very heart of the hotel. From the smaller details to the larger statements, The New Craftsmen were able to deliver pieces of distinctiveness that echoed the spirit and intention of the Heckfield brand - and how guests experienced this with every touch and interaction with the space - from a simple textured glass by Jochen Holz that sits in every bedroom, to a bespoke lighting design for the bathrooms by Michael Ruh.

\n

Overall, 21 of our makers are represented at Heckfield Place across artworks, styling accessories, storage, tableware, lighting and furniture.

\n

Since launching to the public in 2018, Heckfield Place has been a celebrated example of authentic design using craft and its makers an integral part and promise of the experience, and in 2019 went on to win the title of ‘Hotel of the Year’ by The Sunday Times.
