A hand-woven decorative sculpture by master basket-maker Joe Hogan. These nests are a response to the dramatic decrease in the number of birds in Europe’s skies over the last 30 years. Made with wild birch twigs gathered from his local woodland, Joe’s basket delicately recreates the beautiful organic form of a birds nest, with ornamental flourish.

PROCESS

After collecting his material from local woodland, Joe bends and weaves his branchlets to create a swirled nest. Building pieces with found and foraged materials allows Joe to be selective. Choosing each item carefully, the twigs are then delicately constructed with sculptural intent. Each finished nest is a one-off artwork.
