Elm, Hazel and Oak Stool is hand-carved by artist in wood Alex Walshaw. It is first hand-carved and chainsaw finished on the exterior for a rugger feel, then scorched and rubbed bac. The legs are coppiced and riven hazel and oak which are scorched and rubbed back. The seat is finished with an iron mordant and oil & wax finish.
Alex Walshaw creates furniture and functional objects from storm fallen and reclaimed wood, and wood grown through coppicing, an ancient and sustainable method of woodland management. Walshaw combines fresh green wood and relic oak in his furniture designs, forming hybrids of the modern and ancient.
