PROCESS
Viv utilises slow hand-building techniques like pinching and coiling in the process of making. Drawn to the meditative properties of these techniques the mind is put aside in the moment of making in favour of taking an intuitive response to the clay. The tactile nature of clay lends itself to the exploration of form, allowing Viv to translate thoughts and feelings that arise during making into formal and material qualities in the works. Once bisque-fired, several layers of glazes are hand brushed onto the piece to create variation on the surface and then high-fired to give a unique patina.
