Orb Table Lamp

The Orb Table Lamp is a curvaceous form with a hand-knotted surface, created by mixed-media textile designer, Aimee Betts. An age-old technique of knotting has been given a contemporary update through the use of luxurious leather and a fresh, hand-painted surface. Aimee uses Josephine knots (Macrame) when creating this base, producing a striking symmetrical pattern. This knot is part of the basket weave family and is known for its strength. Contrasting with the hand-painted surface below, the graphic pattern created by the leather cord creates a fresh contemporary look. Due to the use of natural leather, variations in tone may occur from batch to batch. With care, natural leather will develop a unique and beautiful patina over time.

PROCESS

For the Orb Table Lamp, Aimee has applied the Josephine knot to a spherical lamp base to create an object which nods to fishnet bottles. The leather cord and hand painted surface gives a fresh contemporary look, which takes it away from its nautical origins.
