Alexander found that the most challenging part of making the light was to design a method, and therefore a jig, capable of effectively and repeatedly laminating twenty-three layers of maple veneer - all at once - into a very tight horse shoe shape. Once trimmed and after multiple grooves have been routed round them, these horseshoe shapes became the base upon which the cane is applied. Patinated, precision laser cut brass components make a nice addition to the otherwise hand manipulated wood and cane - the combination makes for a homely but polished, soulful product.
