Cylinder Vessel in Light Amber (Large)

Edmond Byrne
£1,320
Cylinder Vessel by Irish glass blower Edmond Byrne is an ethereal, glass artwork with a unique patina inspired by the weathering of ancient Roman glass. Each hand blown vessel is produced in a range of opaque colours and carries marks that reflect the moment of their making and their yearning for the past.

This piece is inspired by the complex way in which the human mind interprets emotions, and the combination of culture and memory from different areas of the mind. Each piece in the range was made to induce an emotional response from the viewer – by the exploration of colour, texture and form – making the vessel a manifestation of emotion

Process

Inspired by his sketches, Edmond blows glass into moulds to create the tactile surfaces. Each mould is made of clay, fabrics and sand. The vessel is blown in opaque colours, very thinly so the hue changes. The piece is then dipped in a kaolin and water solution to create crazing and a patina effect.
