Deux Amis II

Aude Van Ryn
Deux Amis II by London-based ceramicist and illustrator Aude Van Ryn. This abstract terracotta sculpture was inspired by art from West Africa, especially the influence this aesthetic had on early modernism.

Deux Amis II by Aude Van Ryn has been deliberately sculpted from terracotta and decorated with a select few glazes to achieve an animated, graphic effect. Aude's sculptural works are as playful and pictorial as her illustrations, while paying homage to her love and fascination of modern art from the mid 20th century.

Each sculpture is hand-built using grogged terracotta clay, which is fired at 1080°c, before it is decorated using underglaze and hand mixed lead based glazes. Aude often sketches the piece before building it on a larger, three dimensional scale.
