Iona Square Cushion (Large)

The Good Shepherd
£410

Iona Square Cushion (large) by The Good Shepherd uses an organic, multi-colour stripe to subtly explore texture and celebrate the natural tonality of undyed wool.

The Good Shepherd seeks to enhance engagement with this handmade textile piece by inviting us to explore its tactility. Repetitions of a woven linear pattern, added to the knitted cushion in variant natural colours, creates a stripe which evokes a tangible rhythm - a testament to the material’s versatility and the joy of working with natural yarn.

Process

With corded yarns sourced from Shetland, The Good Shepherd set out to explore a multi-coloured stripe. After hand-weaving the pattern – using natural shades of wool – the fabric is then felted, steamed, cut, and finally hand stitched into cushions. Each piece of fabric is scaled specifically for each cushion.
The Maker The Good Shepherd Knitter - South East England

The Good Shepherd is a knitwear company founded in 2013 by RCA graduate Emily Watts. Specialising in hand knitted textiles, the brand creates intricately knitted cushions and throws imbued with a strong sense of British identity, rooted to culture, process and place. The Good Shepherd draws inspiration from the exposed, windswept landscape of the Shetland Islands, following a research trip to Shetland’s northernmost isles where much of Emily’s yarn is sourced.
