Windblown Basket III

Alison Dickens
Windblown Basket III by Alison Dickens, a dynamic, contemporary piece crafted from willow, using the time intensive technique of rope wale or rope coil weave.

Drawn to sculptural forms, Alison's work evokes the high curves and edges of the British landscape - from the Yorkshire Dales to the Suffolk coastline - as well as the forms and patterns made into its terrain by water, wind and wave.

The basket has been crafted using the rope wale (or rope coil) weave, which involves weaving with twisted, bundles of willow, and adding a new rod at every stroke. Whilst more time intensive, the technique provides Alison with the ability to create a strong sense of movement in her pieces which best evokes the landscape forms and forces she aims to echo.
